Polypipe introduces the UK’s first flexible waterless trap

polypipePolypipe, manufacturer of above and below ground drainage, plastic plumbing and underfloor heating systems, has launched a flexible self-sealing waste valve.

New to market, the range can be used across a whole manner of waste appliances from basins to baths, showers, urinals and sinks, and features a flexible corrugated pipe body for added adaptability in confined spaces.

Available in 32mm and 40mm diameters, the flexible valves have been launched to offer installers and end users more choice in situations where traditional water-based traps may not be the most effective.

Unlike water-based traps which can be compromised by evaporation after long periods of inactivity, this new range does not run the risk of foul odours entering the building in low or no flow situations. Furthermore, the flexible pipe structure and simple ‘pipe to pipe’ connection means it can be fitted either vertically or horizontally at an angle and still perform.

In the coming weeks, Polypipe will be showcasing the practical problem-solving benefits of the new range to installers working on residential, healthcare and education projects.

Mark Devanney, product manager at Polypipe, said: “We’ve introduced the new, self-sealing flexible valve as a direct result of customer demand for a problem-solving above ground waste drainage solution. With its flexible pipe profile, the product is versatile enough to be installed in a number of configurations across multiple building types, giving installers and their customers added confidence that works can be completed swiftly and with ease.”

Polypipe’s flexible self-sealing waste valve works by opening under pressure from running water from an appliance and closes to re-form the airtight seal once the water stops running. It is available with a range of connectors to allow the product to be used with ABS pipework.

Example applications ideally suited to the flexible valve include small bathrooms where it would otherwise be necessary to chisel out the floor to fit the trap, where a slim line basin is being used, under shower trays, and where there is a need to free up space under kitchen sinks to maximise storage potential.

To celebrate the launch, Polypipe is holding a prize draw, giving installers the chance to win a spa break for two in Bath, with second and third prizes of a 16gb Apple iPad and five chances to win a 2gb Apple iPod Shuffle.
