Board Directorship for Purple Energy’s Matthew Goodwin

Managing director of Purple Energy, Dr Matthew Goodwin, has been elected to the Board of Directors for the Wood Heat Association (WHA).

Founded in 2013, the WHA is the UK trade association for the modern wood heating industry, working to promote the installation of high quality wood heating systems through lobbying, policy development and information distribution.

Having established the company in 2006, Purple Energy specialise in wood fuelled heating systems for large domestic and commercial buildings across the country, often using district heating networks to heat multiple buildings from one boiler plant.

Matthew said: “It is a crucial time for the biomass heating sector and the development of the Association over the last couple of years is a significant step forward for biomass heating.

“The WHA has pledged to strive to create a stable framework for biomass and I’m very much looking forward to contributing to encouraging sustained growth and success within the sector.”

Purple Energy joined the WHA last year, with the association bringing together wood fuel suppliers, biomass boiler and stove installers and distributors, energy companies and developers.

The Association’s parent organisation, the Renewable Energy Association, was instrumental in getting the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme into legislation in 2011. Funded by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC), the scheme has encouraged significant uptake of renewable heating systems in homes and businesses.

As an increasingly influential association, the WHA is currently working to influence all major political parties and DECC to ensure that there is a robust and well-funded RHI scheme with a substantial budget from 2016 through to 2020 and beyond.
