Halifax-based Viva Training has enhanced its heat pump courses by switching to BPEC’s industry-leading Heat Pump Systems programme.
This BPEC heat pump qualification covers air source heat pumps (ASHPs) and an introduction to ground source heat pump (GSHP) technology, enabling experienced heating installers to develop their skills and knowledge, expand their services into the growing renewables sector and achieve Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accreditation.
Richard Firth, MD for Viva, said: “With heat pump installations growing year-on-year, stimulated by a variety of measures; including the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), uplifts to Part L of the Building Regulations and market-based mechanisms, such as government plans to mandate boiler manufacturers to sell a specified number of heat pumps each year; there has never been a better time to upskill into this popular renewable technology.

This relationship further enhances our offering for heat pump installers, which was given a boost earlier in the year when we became a Daikin Sustainable Homes Centre. Viva now provides a one stop shop for heating engineers – from high quality training through to the purchasing of heat pump products, including expert advice and support. Some candidates may go on to become Daikin approved installers.”
The heat pump systems training programme is designed for learners with existing qualifications and experience in the plumbing and heating sector who want to develop their skills.
Because of the technical nature of this course, learners must hold at a Level 2/3 plumbing or heating qualification as a minimum to meet the entry requirements of this training programme, including Water Regulations/Byelaws (WRAS or an equivalent).
Alternatively, heating installers who can provide documentary evidence of 3 years’ experience installing wet central heating systems may also meet entry requirements, the company added.
