Most plumbers are facing extra van insurance costs as a result of committing to a policy at the last minute.

Confused.com has found that 53% of plumbers that own a van run a quote within 48 hours of their intended inception date for cover. Those that do receive an average premium of £854.60. However, the more organised van owners –running a quote 19-22 days before their inception date – received an average premium of £706.97, saving 17%.

Amanda Stretton, motoring editor at Confused.com told HPM: “A worrying number of Plumbers are leaving buying their van insurance to the last minute – a mistake that is costing them up to £147, on average.

“According to our data, Plumbers should consider shopping for their van insurance around three weeks before their renewal date in order to optimise savings.
