National independent plumber’s merchant, Plumbase, has revealed a raft of new training courses at all levels of its business, following the launch of the government’s new apprenticeship levy.

The new training provision is available for both new and existing Plumbase employees and supports those in entry level positions all the way through to senior management.

The new apprenticeships are designed to complement internal training provisions, which are focused on further improving management skills and developing product knowledge.

Cat Easdown, HR director, who has introduced the new training offering, said: “I have always been keen for Plumbase to be able to offer colleagues something more than just an internal management development programme, and the apprenticeship levy gave us the perfect platform and mechanism to do this.

“The results of the new training provision will have weight and credibility throughout the industry and not just within Plumbase, which provides a clear benefit to both the business and individuals. Importantly, a key requirement of these news courses is the need for participants to demonstrate that they have put their learning into practice in the workplace, which again provides significant value for us as a business and our employees.”

The new courses include a Level 2 Customer Service Practitioner Apprenticeship, an ILM Level 3 Diploma in Leadership and Management, a Level 6 Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship and a soon to be launched Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management.

Those joining the business in entry level positions will be eligible for the Level 2 qualification, akin to five GCSE passes at grade A-C, while those working towards a Level 6 Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship will achieve the equivalent of a Bachelor degree with honours.

A minimum requirement for entry onto the government’s apprenticeship levy applicable schemes, is the need for applicants to have a grade C or above for Maths and English Language at GCSE. For those that don’t have this, Plumbase is supporting with help towards attaining a level 2 functional skills test, which acts as an equivalent.

As well as a financial investment, Plumbase has committed to allocating 20% of working hours to allow employees to complete tasks and work associated with their study. Flexible working will also be offered to those apprentices working towards their formal qualification.

Speaking about the initiative Mark Bradley, managing director, added: “We are committed to the development of our staff, which will in turn ensure we are able to give the best possible service to our customers, whether at the trade counter or in our showrooms. This latest training programme is part of a long-term strategic aim of recognising and developing our talented people in order to maintain a competitive advantage.”
