Calling qualified plumbers – WaterSafe wants you!

WaterSafe is recruiting qualified plumbers in Wales and Northern Ireland to its UK register with the support of Welsh Water and Northern Ireland Water.

WaterSafe offers the largest directory of approved plumbers in the UK and is supported by all UK water companies and the drinking water regulators to provide consumers with a trusted route to plumbers.

It was set up to help keep the UK’s drinking water safe, free from contamination and to avoid water waste.

What are the benefits of joining?

  • Promotion for your business – get listed on the largest online directory for approved plumbers in the UK, promoted by Welsh Water and Northern Ireland Water to their 4.5 million customers.
  • Customer reassurance – that you’re a qualified plumber supported by Welsh Water, Northern Ireland Water and the drinking water regulators.
  • A direct link to Welsh Water and Northern Ireland Water – to self-notify plumbing work and access free advice on the water regulations. Only approved plumbers can self-notify their work to water companies.

“Being part of WaterSafe has been great for my business. It’s a transparent way for the public to know that I am certified and hold the relevant qualifications and insurances. I get frequent calls from the public who have used the online search facility and found my company details,” said Paul Williams, Welsh Master Plumber and WaterSafe member

HOW TO JOIN

To join you need to be qualified and have a recognised water fittings regulations certificate. With less than a third of plumbers in Wales and Northern Ireland trained in the regulations, WaterSafe membership is a great way to stand out from the crowd.

You must also be a member of one of the Approved Contractors’ Schemes that make up WaterSafe.

In Wales this can be:

Water Industry Approved Plumbers Scheme (WIAPS) administered by WRAS on behalf of Welsh Water and 13 other water suppliers

Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE)

Association of Heating and Plumbing Contractors (APHC) or

Severn Trent Water’s Approved Plumber WaterMark scheme.

In Northern Ireland this can be:

Scottish and Northern Ireland Plumbing Employers’ Federation (SNIPEF) or

Chartered Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (CIPHE).

Membership of WIAPS is free. Charges apply to join WaterMark, SNIPEF, CIPHE and APHC, which offer wider benefits and support. Once signed up you can join WaterSafe at no extra cost.
