Following a recent cycling accident, Paul McLaughlin is stepping down as chief executive of the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA).

Tim Hopkinson, president, said: “While Paul is expected to make a full recovery, following complications to injuries received in a cycling accident where he broke several vertebrae, he is stepping down to focus on his recovery.”

“In the past two years the association has been focussed on modernising, ensuring our ongoing relevance to both the industry and our members. The increasing profile of the BESA brand, and the successful launch of the inaugural BESA National Conference and Awards at the end of October are just two examples of how we are repositioning ourselves to cement our place in the industry for the next 100 years.”

Building on these solid foundations, BESA’s deputy CEO, Bruce Kirton, in partnership with BESA’s officer team, all of whom are members, will oversee the day to day running of the association while a search for a successor is underway.

Tim concluded: “The association wishes Paul a full and speedy recovery, and we are confident that Bruce will ensure the smooth running of the association while we seek the right CEO for the next chapter in our association’s illustrious history.”
