Viessmann launched its new Vitocal 200-A ie monobloc heat pump to the UK market at Installer Show, which took place from 23 to 25 June at the NEC in Birmingham.
The new unit will be available this autumn. According to the company, it is the first of a new generation of products underpinned by One Base Intelligence. Heat pumps, solar PV, battery storage, ventilation systems and EV chargers, from Viessmann or other brands, can be networked and managed through a single logic. This is presented to the customer as one central control unit via the ViCare app.
Whether a homeowner starts with a heat pump, solar panels or an EV charger, every component will work with the next. Viessmann said the system can be holistically built up over time, at the homeowner’s convenience and as budgets allow, without fear of incompatibility of products or controls.
The heat pump is offered with outputs from four to 12 kW, which covers approximately 70% to 80% of the UK residential housing stock. It has a high flow temperature of up to 75 °C, the company added that this makes it well-suited for legionella prevention. The unit also offers quick hot water recovery times, which makes it suitable for both new build and retrofit projects. It achieves an energy efficiency class of A+++ and R290 is used as the refrigerant (GWP 0.02). Furthermore, the heat pump operates at 54 or 56 dB(A) in noise-reduced operation.
Viessmann stated that the Vitocal 200-A ie is being launched with a new, improved range of four indoor units as per the existing Vitocal 150-A heat pump range. The pump and electrical heater are now integrated into the outdoor unit. Viessmann’s new Universal Controller ie unit, measuring 45cm x 40cm x 13.5cm, can be fitted to an internal wall or the hot water cylinder inside the airing cupboard.
The Universal Controller ie can also be used as a standalone control unit, for example, to integrate solar PV or brands of other heat pumps and air conditioners into the ViCare app.
Other product highlights include the specification of a single fan outdoor unit for units up to 12 kW output and dimensions that ensure an installed height of 90 cm. The Vitocal 200-A ie outdoor unit weighs around 90 kgs in the lower output ranges and the larger models weigh around 118 kg. Each outdoor unit fits on a Euro pallet for easy transportation, the company added.
A new cascading concept means up to four heat pumps can be cascaded to provide a maximum 48 kW output installation. This requires only one indoor unit and one wall breakthrough, simplifying installation and saving time and money.
The Vitocal 200-A ie is made in the EU.
Cameron Beech, head of product management and training at Viessmann Climate Solutions UK, said: “The Vitocal 200-A intelligent energy (ie) is the heat pump that the trade has been asking for – a Viessmann product unashamedly designed for the UK that allows installers to serve all customer groups across all product and price categories. It’s a price-performance champion, and the easiest ever Viessmann heat pump to install.
“The One Base Intelligence framework presents the market with incredibly strong reasons to come on board with Viessmann. The time is right and the opportunities are huge. Instead of installing individual products within a system, we’re offering a simple, expandable and updatable overall ecosystem, open to components, controls and tariffs of the customer’s choice.
“By opening up our ecosystem to third-party providers and allowing integration into existing system configurations from other vendors, Viessmann is putting customers first and setting a new standard for the industry. We feel a sense of responsibility to help accelerate the energy transition: affordable products; open, future-proofed software that will instill trust in renewable and electrified systems; and access to the lowest energy costs – all in an easy-to-use way, giving full control.”
