Gav Murray, home heating director at Hive, part of British Gas, has commented on the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) figures for January.

The data showed that the total number of applications in January 2026 across all technology types was 22% higher than the previous month.

He said: “After another strong year for heat pump adoption, momentum doesn’t appear to be slowing down as homeowners continue to make the switch to more efficient heating methods.

“The incoming Future Homes Standard will be crucial to maintaining increased levels of adoption and setting the blueprint for modern, sustainable and energy-efficient homes. Clear mandates will give the sector the confidence needed to make long-term decisions about the decarbonisation of home heating.

“However, to unlock further growth and meet the government’s 2030 targets, we must ensure the sector is fully prepared, from supply chains to installer capacity, so we can accelerate adoption and deliver greener homes at scale.”
