Gav Murray, home heating director at Hive, has commented on the latest Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) figures.
BUS data showed that the total number of applications in April 2026 across all technology types was two per cent lower than the previous month. However, it is 20% higher than the same month of the previous year.
Gav said: “April’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme figures highlight continued interest in low-carbon heating, as households explore alternatives to traditional gas boilers.
“Recent conversations that air conditioning become increasingly common in parts of England due to warmer summers, underline the need to think differently about how we heat and cool our homes. As well as being the future of home heating, heat pumps can also support cooling, making them a practical part of the UK’s response to both decarbonisation and rising temperatures.
“Sustained government backing, accessible funding, and trusted advice are essential to help householders make this transition with confidence.”
