Daikin has expanded its range of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to include commercial air conditioning, chillers and commercial heat pump ranges.
This follows the recent release of EPDs for the company’s residential heat pump and air conditioning range. Daikin now has 30 accessible EPDs.
According to a company statement, embodied carbon is a critical but often overlooked contributor to the built environment’s carbon footprint. Unlike operational carbon, embodied carbon is locked in once materials are manufactured and installed. This means early-stage design and procurement decisions are vital, the statement added.
Therefore, Daikin noted that transparency is crucial when it comes to reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption. EPDs provide a robust way of detailing the information clearly, offering accurate and third-party verified carbon data, it said. EPDs also outline each stage of the product lifecycle from production, construction, end of life and the potential for reuse, recovery or recycling. The company added that this supports design teams in meeting legislative requirements and achieving certification under schemes such as BREEAM, NABERS and the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard (UKNZCBS).
Design teams can access Daikin’s full range of EPDs on the company’s website. Each declaration provides third-party verified data ready to be used in whole-life carbon assessments, BREEAM submissions and BIM workflows.
Steve Molloy, sustainability and commercial solutions manager at Daikin, said: “We have always endeavoured to lead the way in terms of innovation and engineering excellence, and we are continuing this with our drive behind sustainability. Our EPD for the VRV Heat Recovery R-32 system for example, sets the bar and is the first of its kind in the industry.
“By increasing our EPD offering, we’re helping our customers and the wider supply chain to make more informed decisions, meet legislative requirements and reduce the environmental impact of their projects. We’re proud to do this in a transparent way and we will continue to expand the number of EPDs as new products are introduced.”
