Can a soil stack be vented from a horizontal branch where a WC pan exits the house?

Question from Michael Dingle, via e-mail:
Can a soil stack be vented from a horizontal branch where a WC pan exits the house, or does it have to have a bend and run to a vertical stack branch and vent off there?

Answer from Steve Harris – technical services engineer at Wavin:
When the soil pipe comes from a toilet and through the wall, it can go into a branch which goes down to the ground with a bend and the other end can then extend up the wall and terminate either above the gutter or one metre away from an opening window.

The method in which you are asking for the installation to be done is the best method, because it puts the vent pipe on the negative side of the branch, and this will help with a better discharge from the toilet.
