BTC Training Centre has been accredited as the only independent training provider in the UK to offer a quality assured Managed Learning Programme (MLP) in domestic gas training.

In direct response to corner-cutting and sub-standard practices by a number of training companies in the UK, minimum standards have now been put in place by the Sector Skills Council, Energy and Utility Skills (EU Skills), governing the training for candidates wishing to become a gas engineer.

All training centres must now deliver an industry recognised training qualification or seek direct accreditation, which has been positively received by the more proactive training centres, including BTC Training Centre, who has taken further steps to ensure their candidates get the training and employability skills demanded by the sector.

Awarded Gold Provider and Product Status, BTC delivers a MLP, which goes above the standard curriculum and delivers employability skills in addition to the highest level of practical training and technical knowledge. This is backed-up by a guaranteed Work Placement anywhere in the UK – a unique service provided by BTC.

Achieving Provider Approval ensures the required standards for delivery, assessment and internal quality assurance are met. Likewise achieving Product Approval benchmarks the learning and assessment material against a set of best practice criteria, the Code of Practice for Learning and Assessment Interventions.

David Dumaresq-Lucas, director at BTC Training, said: “The new rules and standards for training centres are very welcome and remove the disparity in the quality of training provided to gas engineer students in the UK. We are specifically proud to have met with the new criteria as the only verified independent provider in the UK.

“Making for a much safer industry, trainee gas engineers will not be qualified to work in the industry unless they have completed a fully compliant course with on-site practical experience. At BTC we have been delivering courses which exceed the current standards for years, now our curriculum is validated and will be annually assessed to ensure our high standards are maintained.”

BTC Training Centre is the UK’s leading New Entrant training and assessment specialist offering practical learning from within a bespoke state-of-the-art training centre based in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire.
