Air conditioning and energy solutions provider, LG, marked the official opening of its training academy at its new headquarters in Brooklands with an open day attended by the media, distributors, installers, contractors and team members. The new offices, right next to the historic motor racing circuit near Weybridge, in Surrey, house an impressive new training academy that was opened on the day by LG’s UK president, Ki Kwon. The centre, kitted out with state-of-the-art technology, includes areas for trainees to get ‘hands on’ with all the LG products, such as air conditioning, heating and the user interfaces that set LG equipment apart from its competitors. Jody Lees, head of air conditioning and energy solutions in the UK, stressed just how vital training is to LG as part of the package it offers. “We’ve trained more than 3,000 people in the past seven years and in the past four years we’ve seen the number coming through our training courses almost quadruple,” he said. “This says a huge amount about where our priorities lie. INSTALLED AND MAINTAINED “We provide exceptional equipment and in order for this to deliver the performance and ongoing benefits to the end users who invest in LG quality, it’s vital that the equipment is installed properly and maintained to deliver the highest possible levels of efficiency. “We want to see an ever expanding number of engineers coming on our courses and we’re proud to provide this training free of charge. It’s an integral part of what we offer and it’s vital that it’s taken up.” The launch of the LG Si specialist installer programme has moved the training agenda forward a number of notches, so LG distributor customers are now arguably the most highly trained individuals in the sector. LG aim to work closely with its distribution channel in order to expand its Si coverage, attracting large numbers of new engineers and an equally impressive number of existing team members heading back for further training and top-up training to keep them at the cutting edge of LG technology. Visitors to the open day were introduced to the full range of LG equipment as they were shown around the academy. ALL IN ONE HEAT PUMP This included the Therma V ranges of air to water heat pumps which, LG claims, are taking the sector by storm. Since development began in 2009, LG has quickly reacted to the market and developed its latest monobloc, described as ‘the true all in one heat pump’ for the marketplace. Offered alongside the product is a huge amount of pre-sales resource in terms of selection and designer software, all installer led, and offered as support. LG also announced that it had taken the decision to extend the warranty period up to seven years (parts and labour). The Multi V, variable refrigerant flow range of equipment is another flagship product. The range has been applied all over the UK and is growing quickly. Launched only a year ago, LG is pleased the product is being embraced for its efficiency and time saving benefits. INSTALLER PROGRAMME LG’s wide range of user interfaces was also included in the academy, from simple controls which in the past have been symbol related to the most advanced options that can interface with the most complex of building controls systems on commercial properties. The new LG premium controller is text, touch and colour screen and able to do things as technical as full Building Management Systems interface. LG also recognises the move into ‘smart air con’, the utilising of a mobile phone to operate systems. “It was a pleasure to be able to welcome so many people to the open day, to see these exceptional new offices which are our new home in the UK and show our visitors the wide range of products we now offer the UK marketplace,” said Donna-Marie Evans, assistant marketing manager at LG. “LG is very much on the up and making huge strides in the UK.” 42 NOVEMBER 2015 HEATING & PLUMBING MONTHLY enquiry number 118 LG’s Training Academy is kitted out with state-of-the-art LG equipment The Therma V range of air to water heat pumps area in the Training Academy
