CHIMNEYS, FLUES
& FIREPLACES
SCHIEDEL DOES ITS CIVIC
DUTY
Schiedel Chimney Systems installed a temporary flue
system at Newcastle Civic Centre to help keep the
building warm during the winter.
Schiedel’s ICS Twin Wall stainless steel flue
replaced an ageing brick flue. ICS Twin Wall is said
to be a highly insulated solution, including thick
‘superwool’ blanket, which is suitable for use alongside
gas, oil, wood and multi-fuel heating.
Reportedly ideal for small commercial applications,
the system employs a simple push-fit jointing system,
secured by locking band. Thanks to its jointing system,
rigidity and easy condensate, draindown is ensured,
with the assembly method allowing the inner liner to
expand and contract with temperature at the female
end. The flue can withstand the temperatures of a soot
fire without losing the integrity of the joints.
The Schiedel team delivered and erected the flue
system, which is linked to three Babcock Wanson
boilers. All systems were supported horizontally by
means of ceiling hangers and vertically by means of
adjustable wall brackets. www.schiedel.com/uk

IMS LAUNCHES SKAMOENCLOSURE
Insulation machining specialist, IMS, has partnered with technical insulation
systems manufacturer, Skamol, to bring to market a new fireplace enclosure
solution which delivers time saving advantages over traditional methods of
enclosure construction.
Utilising the SkamoEnclosure A1 non-combustible board, IMS stocks
the complete solution to create fireplace enclosures which are suitable for
stoves, inset and cassette fires. As an extremely lightweight yet robust board,
SkamoEnclosure Board enables the enclosure supports and framework to
be constructed without steel studwork or blockwork. Moreover, the system
does not require special fixings or tools which means the enclosure can be
constructed using regular screws and SkamoEnclosure Glue. This simplified
build method achieves overall cost savings on a project and greatly reduces
construction times.
Once the enclosure is created, the completed construction is primed using
SkamoEnclosure Primer and finished with SkamoEnclosure Smooth Plaster to
provide a paint-ready surface.
Deb Wardle, business development manager at IMS, said: “We continuously
look to innovate with our existing product range to bring to market solutions
which deliver practical benefits for the industry. Fireplace enclosures are
increasingly popular but have traditionally been time consuming to install. By
designing a system using SkamoEnclosure Board we’ve demonstrated that
efficiencies can be achieved, but as an A1 classified product – maintains the
highest performance standards.” www.ims-insulation.com
