SMART SOLUTIONS FOR A GRAND
As part of a hotel conversion project in Eastbourne, East
Sussex Home Glow Plumbing & Heating has installed
a mixture of Alpha InTec C combination boilers and
Due to the size of the new apartments and a need for
energy efficiency, a high capacity combination boiler
was required. The Alpha InTec 34C was selected and
installed in 13 of the new homes to ensure the heating
and hot water demands could be easily met.
Home Glow Plumbing & Heating also specified
Alpha’s FlowSmart for the townhouse and the two
largest apartments where demands on the hot water
system from multiple outlets needed to be factored
in. FlowSmart was selected as a more energy efficient
alternative to the conventional system boiler and
FlowSmart features a GasSaver flue gas heat
recovery unit and thermal store to enable a combination boiler to meet the higher levels
of demand and achieve a sustained flow rate of up to 18 litres per minute above 50°C –
easily surpassing the performance of a 200 litre unvented cylinder.
For the townhouse, the wall mounted FlowSmart variant was chosen, which combines
the InTec 40GS Plus boiler with integrated GasSaver and a bolt-on cylinder. However,
due to space restrictions around the boiler in the apartments, the original configuration
of FlowSmart was selected, which uses a freestanding thermal store sited beneath the

GRANT UK EXPANDS HOT
WATER CYLINDER RANGE
Grant UK is introducing new models to its popular Wave
cylinder range. The addition of six new cylinders along
with a buffer and volumiser, will increase the choice of
complementary heating products available.
Grant UK is launching two new products which are
compatible with its Wave Cylinder range, including a 50 litre
buffer tank and a 30 litre volumiser. The buffer tank, which
allows for different configurations of the flow and return to
and from the heat source and system, maintains a constant
flow rate from the boiler or heat pump helping to maximise its
efficiency. It also includes a 3kW back-up immersion element and ‘dry’ thermostat pocket.
Meanwhile, the volumiser is designed for use when the volume on any zone within a
system is below the minimum required for the correct operation of the heat source. The
volumiser unit ensures that an inverter type heat pump, for example, can accurately balance
the modulation functions of the fan, compressors and circulating pump, reducing the risk of
faults and start/stop cycles.
Grant’s High Performance fast recovery cylinder range will also be welcoming new models
which incorporate a buffer tank. Three of these new units, available in 200 litre, 250 litre and
300 litre variants, combine the cylinder with the 50 litre buffer tank at their base, reducing
the need for separate tanks and reducing the overall footprint required. www.grantuk.com
