Work to do with Boiler Plus
as installers express concern
within weeks of launch
Back in March, at the Heating
and Hot Water Council (HHIC)
members lunch, the merits of
Boiler Plus were championed by
the chair of its boiler manufacturer group.
Elaine Lancaster said: “Boiler Plus
is simple to adopt and the measures
introduced can demonstrate tangible
savings because you are dealing with
technology that is already there.
“Most importantly, Boiler Plus is using
the existing regularly framework, so there
is no extra burden on installers, no extra
compliance needed and no extra cost to
manufacturers and installer, all of which
increases the chances of it being a success.”
So, Elaine and the rest of the
HHIC, which was “at the heart of the
industry led initiative, will be slightly
disappointed to read the results of a
survey carried out by Logic4Training.
Fifty-seven per cent of installers
quizzed by the training provider “have
little or no knowledge of the Boiler Plus
legislation and how it will affect them”.
Installers said they were also unsure of the
benefi ts of the new scheme for consumers
and installers, while only half felt they
were equipped to take on the work that
the new requirements would demand.
Despite Boiler Plus being designed to
encourage energy effi ciency improvements,
two thirds of respondents felt that its
introduction would not lead to more
business – a worrying statistic as it begs

that more needs to be done to

column, to guide installers through
Boiler Plus, prior to its launch.
And leading manufacturers such as
Ariston, Vokèra, Danfoss and Worcester
Bosch have all talked up the merits
of the initiative on our pages.
Raising the profi le of Boiler Plus is
now absolutely essential – the powers
that be need to re-look at the way
information is disseminated to key
groups as a matter of urgency.
