“We could be the biggest company you

them, but not actually realise it”
offering a complete solution.”
REHAU also expects the renewables
sector to kick on.
“The Renewable Heat Incentive has
been very biomass focused in the past,”
said Steve. “Heat pumps haven’t grown as
much as expected, but there is a market
for them without a doubt.
“We see renewable heat as a key area,
with a lot of our products suitable, such as
our pre-insulated pipe and all the internal
plumbing pipework.”
Another big area for growth for
REHAU’s pre-insulated pipe is in district
heating.
“This has huge potential in the UK with
the government investing a lot of money
in heat networks,” said Steve.
“We are well placed in that area, what
with our experience in Germany and
other European markets. District heating
is the driver to get the different renewable
heat technologies to grow their share.”
The fact that REHAU’s building
solution division continues to evolve has
certainly kept work interesting for the staff
employed in the Herefordshire office.
“The original team moved from Slough
in 1998 and there was a big recruitment
drive,” said Steve.
“The fact that five of them employed
back then are still here 20 years later says
a lot. The truth is that they are not sitting
there dealing with just one product over
that time.
“We started with underfloor, then
plumbing, then cable management, then
pre-insulated pipe, then stormwater
management and now sewer pipes, so life
doesn’t stand still.
“And if you want training and
development, it is always there for
everyone. People wouldn’t work here for
over 20 years if they didn’t enjoy it.”
So, what does the future hold for
REHAU?
“With our name established in so many
sectors, it’s not as if we need to launch 20
new products. In all honesty, we just need
to continue the good work we are doing,”
said Steve.
“We will continue to develop the
services we offer to match the market
trends over the next five to ten years.
“Research and development is big in
Germany so if there is something that is
missing from the market let’s see what we
can do. If there is a gap, we will find it and
we will fill it.”
