The competition was run by PipeStrip - the handy little tool that strips paint from pipes. Entries came in from colleges all over the UK. Most of the entrants got the initial questions right, so the judges had to rely on the comparative merits of the tie-breakers, to decide who would be amongst the five first prize-winners. The tie-breaking question asked for the completion of the following: ‘My students would like to have PipeStrip in their toolboxes because…’ There was no shortage of imaginative answers, some focused on the time saved by PipeStrip, and others mentioned the safety benefits. In alphabetical order, the first prizewinning colleges were: Blackpool & The Fylde College, City Centre Norwich, Lakes College West Cumbria, Llandrillo College Colwyn Bay, and Somerset College of A&T. Each of these colleges received a display case holding 24 PipeStrip tools. It is hoped that their students - the plumbers of the future - will be helped to become early adopters of best practice methods.
