Schiedel Chimney Systems can now offer HETAS Service and Maintenance course (H009), designed for chimney sweeps and maintenance staff charged with ensuring stoves and fireplaces are safe and in good working order.

Available from its state-of-the-art training centre, in Washington, Tyne and Wear, the course is ideal for anyone responsible for checking the safety of solid fuel appliances, a key requirement at this time of year as many end users look to light their fires.

HETAS recommends that appliances are serviced on an annual basis, according to the manufacturer’s instructions, and the H009 course provides the theory and practical experience to carry out this task effectively. Candidates do not have to be HETAS registered to attend the course, making it ideal for stove retailers, chimney sweeps, allied trades such plumbing and heating installers, and maintenance operatives working across housing association properties, for example.

Phil Lowe, key account manager for training at Schiedel, said: “As the UK’s leading flue and chimney manufacturer, Schiedel is well-placed to deliver solid fuel courses to the highest standard. Stove and fireplace maintenance is a key requirement in the autumn and winter, creating a business opportunity for candidates in related trades – such as plumbing and heating.

“All solid fuel appliances should be swept and maintained on an annual basis, and the H009 course will ensure the operatives in charge of this task have the right knowledge to do so effectively. Wood can be an extremely efficient, safe and sustainable fuel source, but only if the appliances designed to burn it are kept in the best possible condition.”
