The installer’s flexible friend
London based plumbing company, PAN Plumbing, is using Buteline’s Polybutene plumbing system on a number of its projects to help speed up the installation process and deliver a leak free guarantee to all of its installations. Comprising Polybutene pipe – a plastic barrier pipe that has been developed specifically for the transfer of hot and cold potable water - the Buteline system provides guaranteed leak free fixing, thanks to the unique cold mechanical weld clamping system.
The system itself is quick and easy to install, making it an attractive option for professional plumbers who may need to undertake several tasks in one day.
Supplied in long coils, the flexible Polybutene pipe can be easily cut to size using a simple cutting tool. A one-piece Buteline fitting is then placed into the pipe before being clamp sealed using a specialist hand held clamp tool that applies up to six tonnes of pressure to the exterior of the fitting.
Mark Page, director of PAN Plumbing, has been using the Buteline system on plumbing projects for some time and agrees that it can help to dramatically speed up the installation process. He said: “We started using the Buteline system some time ago and have not looked back since. The system itself is easy to install and offers significant time saving benefits particularly when compared to traditional copper or even plastic push fit systems. The pipe is not only easy to cut but due to its flexible nature, it can be bent to fit in to the most awkward of places without the need to cut and weld individual pieces of pipe, as is the case with copper.
“By eliminating the need for a naked flame, the Buteline system is far safer to install than a copper system. Thanks to its three part cold mechanical weld jointing system using the easy to operate clamp tool, a join can be made that is so secure it will never come apart, rivalling that of a plastic push fit fixing, which can deteriorate over time.”
Comprising just three main elements – Polybutene-1 pipe, one-piece fittings and the specialist clamp tool, the Buteline system is said to be far easier to install than alternative systems. The one-piece fittings, which are available in an array of sizes and angles, can help to significantly speed up the installation process. With no moving parts, no O rings, no grab rings, no spacers and no need for pipe inserts, the Buteline fittings virtually eliminate the risk of error on the installers part. As such, the pipe will not snag on any parts internally eradicating the risk of unexpected leaks.
