Conflicting advice and inconsistent incentives are hampering the effort to boost the use of renewables in households across the UK, according to Future Energy Solutions. The firm, which acts as an advisor on renewables for both businesses and homeowners, is urging for more to be done to aid understanding and encourage more people to look at clean energy solutions.

Despite government incentives, which have changed considerably in recent years, Future Energy Solutions argues that more needs to be done to inform homeowners about the renewable options open to them. The UK is expected to miss its 2020 renewable energy targets, including 30% of its electricity being from renewable sources, despite the technology growing in deployment.

Joel Tetlow, managing director of Future Energy Solutions, said: “To meet renewable energy targets the government needs to tap into the homeowner market and boost uptake. While lots of people are tempted by the idea of renewables and the cost savings it can bring them, many feel like they don’t have the necessary expertise or that they will be conned. These homeowners need to be able to access the expert advice they need to guide their decisions and drive the UK towards cleaner energy solutions that will slash emissions.”
