A letter from one of our readers, Steve Cottrell

Following a spate of horrific attacks by people using acid cleaner we decided that from August 1, we would require photo ID from all customers purchasing drain acid and at the time imposed an under 21 no sale policy.

Last month, Home Secretary Amber Rudd announced the government would implement legislation restricting the sale of acid to those over 18.

While we are happy it has started to do something about this we do not believe this really goes far enough to prevent these terrible injuries and we will still insist on identification showing name and address so that some accountability is recorded.

I would like to see some open discussion within the trade press and among trade members who by and large take their profession seriously and act responsibly to see what the general view is.

Would you be willing to add this letter to your magazine and to begin some discussion and raise awareness of the potential problem?
